The problem with having heatwaves in Britain is that the country isn’t prepared for them.

In Mediterranean countries like Spain, everyone is geared up for hot weather in summer. WIndows have shutters to keep the heat out in the middle of the day, gardens are set out with shaded areas, many houses have air conditioning units installed and or fans (like this one) on the ceilings.

Of course fans don’t cool anything down, they just circulate the air but that makes it feel cooler and fresher. Combined with the air conditioning units, they make the house feel comfortable.

I’m sure Pete will be pleased that the current heatwave in Britain is coming to an end. We will probably have to wait until October for it to finish here.

PS according to Meto, the temperature in Murcia yesterday was a blistering 38 degrees C. It doesn’t feel a lot cooler than that in Bigastro today.
